Is being "Self Righteous" really such a bad thing? posted 4/25/2008 11:00:52 AM | 0 kudos what's this?     report abuse tagged: life, straddle   StraddleMyNose I have heard people being too self righteous and come off being holier than thou. But is being self righteous really such a bad thing? I mean one can make an argument for being that way to a certain point, because without self-righteousness, would we even have higher standards and morals for people in life? Just a thought. Anyone can feel free to comment on this... *Note* I did not say I am self righteous or not. Just posing this question as food for thought... 	Could it be that people who despise people that they consider too self-righteous really see themselves as falling short in life with morals and higher standards? Like I said, all opinions welcomed.

	An argument could be made against people who are self-righteous that they have a crusade going around trying to tell people how to live. Like I said, I think there are pros and cons to this issue.

	To me, a self righteous person is one who holds the world to a higher set of standards than they do themselves.... For example. "It's ok for me to have sex with my neighbor, because I'm just helping her out in her time of need, but, YOU just want to have sex with her out of LUST."

	To me, a self righteous person is one who holds the world to a higher set of standards than they do themselves Wow, I know some people who actually do that. Not sure it can be said for all self-righteous type people, but like I said, there are those like that out there.

	Well now, just as with confidence and conceit, there is a fine line between self-respect and self-righteous. To be proud of one's own belief system, morals, values, etc is a good thing...to me, that is self-respect. To be self-righteous is to assume a higher morality...and that I think isn't so good. I don't think of people so much as better or worse than each other as I see people as just being different. Love who and what you are, but don't put others down for not being the same...that's what I'm saying :)
