.......... .......... ........... ............ ............. ........

Ok ladies and gents. I'm a big girl now and this is the 1st wedding I have been invited to. (Amazing, huh?...yeah I have no friends) I don't know what to get as a gift for the bride and groom. The bride is my boss. I have only met the groom once in person. They are outdoorsy people, they like to go boating and love to drink.
With this shitty economy, what is appropriate to give?? Are bonds a safe gift?? I know I wouldn't want a fucking bond, they are worth much anyway....lol Our boss, of the both of us, plans on giving her $400 cash. I just don't have that kind of $$ to give. I was going to plan a spa day for the both of us to go and get pampered together. That is besides a real wedding gift. What do people give at weddings?? I should mention that I cannot attend the wedding. It is in Vegas and I have to stay at work and hold down the fort!! Both my bosses will be gone! (watch out people!)
But, really...what is appropriate to give and not tacky??

Find out if they are registered anywhere...that should give you some ideas of what they like...

I would check and see if they have a wedding gift registry site

Yep, see if they are registered, see what kinds of things they want. Doesn't mean you have to buy there or exactly what's on the list. Be creative. Buy something Fun, that they aren't expecting!! Make it a memorable gift!! Maybe order wonderful flowers to be delivered after they return home from Vegas!! Since you are unable to attend I don't think you need to spend big money on a gift.

Oh, VG said something fun. Perhaps something from one of YOUR favorite online retailers...enrich their toybox!

Cash, gift cards, even mall cards are always appropriate. If attending a wedding, I usually try to get an idea of what a wedding costs someone per person and try to give a little more. If they're really outdoorsy, then why not a gift certificate to a sporting goods store. What about finding out the hotel they're horneymooning at... and having a gift basket of intimate fun things delivered there?

Another thought. Though most people will probably pay for their wedding expenses upfront, there's always some additional expense to take care of at check out time. Maybe sending a bottle of champagne and a card... then when they go to check out they can find that XX amount of their bill was paid courtesy of Sunshine.

I have given gift certificates to exclusive salons to brides-to-be at bridal showers. They were alway appreciated and used on their wedding days, but since they'll be out town, she'll probably use it another time.

I always thought money was the best wedding present. That way they can go out and buy what they need. Beats getting three sets of dishes or blenders, or toasters.
