I started seeing this a few years ago in newspapers. Some of these people past 60 all the way up to 90 years old had friends or family members take care of their obits for them, with some instructions on having a younger pic of them pubished in their local newspaper announcing their passing. I have to admit, being young I never paid any attention to the obits section, but my mom does. lol Besides, who wanted to look at that stuff and get depressed over it anyway. Well, a few years ago I was going through the newspaper and came across a very attractive young woman who had passed away, but after reading the obit I came to learn that she was 84 years old, and that pic was of her when she was in her 20's or 30's. Sure, the pic looked a little outdated, but still....After that I realize that being young that certainly grabs one's attention scanning through the newspaper, especially when you come up on the obit section. I think it's pretty cool seeing what people looked like years ago, and it's easier to relate to reading someone's abit after seeing their younger pic when they were in their prime. Sure, I will most likely to that when it's my time, and hopefully that will be when I'm close to 100. Do any of you feel that way about thinking it's cool to have a younger pic of you published after your passing? Or are you old fashion enough to where you would want the traditional obit style with a recent pic of you showing your true age at the time of your passing after you reach past 70 or 80?

yeah, the younger pic is definitely better... I do have to say though, when I do grab a copy of the paper, I usually read the obits, and since I'm so young, I think that's probably pretty weird, but it's interesting to hear what people did with their lives.

I'm going for the recent pic. It always weirds me out to see younger pics of folks in the obits, I guess because they weren't that age when they died. Just seems odd.

Personally I just want a good picture of me. However since I have to look at the obits every morning as part of my job sometimes a recent pic is better as it helps us figure out of the deceased person was in our hospital or not a little faster. Yes its a sucky part of my job to, hate when its the babies or my family and that has happened a few times.

I really don't see why a picture is necessary at all. I mean, who cares what you look like then, or now? But if you're going to use a "then" one, you should also use a "now" ...well, not "NOW," but ...well, you know...one, too, so that people will recognize you, because people tend to look at pictures before they read words.

I'm not sure what the point would be in using a picture of a much younger you, because all of your friends, etc., from that era are now just as old as you are, if not dead already.

Unless we die young, we ALL have to go through the aging process. And people are so freaking shallow and take so much for granted when it comes to youth and beauty, etc. Sure, we all at one point or another are going to start showing physical signs of aging, but a person is SO much more than just what's on the outside. And there are some pretty damned ugly young people around, too, as far as that goes.

I know that, when I die, the last thing I'm going to be worried about is saggy tits or grey hair or a wrinkled face. I'm getting cremated anyway.

So the picture thing...eh. Not for me. To each his own. What I think is odd (and this is "just" me, because I know it's not uncommon) is to have an open-casket funeral, taking pictures, kissing the body, etc.

I understand the "reasoning" behind it, but, to me, the body is just an empty shell once a person dies; the soul has gone to Heaven (presumably) immediately after death. That's one of my reasons for wanting to be cremated. I don't want a bunch of people staring at me, touching me, messing with me, while I'm laying there dead! I wouldn't like it now while I'm alive and I sure wouldn't like it laying there dead while I can't do anything about it!

We have to remember the person who chooses the picture is usually their living spouse, and personally, I think it's sweet because it shows in their eyes they've always seen and will always hold memories their dearly departed as the handsome young man or pretty young woman that stole their hearts. No matter how they became, they were forever young at heart.

Nope three days... remember the story of Lazarus? Three days.... I hate Christians and I know this....

I intend to out live everyone except that asshat from Sears credit card department who keeps calling wanting money... so a pic is moot!

I wanna be buried with my gold guitar!
