To all my friends and those I know here, I am moving through my work to New Mexico> Why????????????? Middle of nowhere, wide open spaces, I love the mountains and all kinds of mountain climbing and camping, the warm dry humid air, the quality of life of all my favorite hobbies.

Pass along any information about this state or any ideas and responses welcome!

I've never been but know a few people who have lived there or visited...I hear it's beautiful and very laid back in a Southwesterly kind of way!

Not much to offer except that I drove through it in '03 and back in '04 on my way to Arizona (just over the border) ...it is absolutely gorgeous. I'm from Southern California originally but I haven't been back out West since I was 14..long time ago..and I said to my friend who was with me, "Wow! I had forgotten the sky was so damn big out here!" It's awesome! Absolutely breathtaking!

And the heat ! Whew! It is hot! But it isn't humid (to say the least; in fact, Arizona's primarily responsible for me quitting drinking..I even quit drinking cokes!)

Tennessee heat is humid and muggy...you feel like you're going to suffocate...

But out West, at 110 in the shade even in September, you don't feel like you're going to suffocate, you just feel like you're going to burst into flames!

I drive through New Mexico often. I enjoy the feel of the desert, the embracing of Navjo and Apache Nations. The local art, archetecture, and many of the foods influenced by the native American cultures. Cant say I dont mind stopping at the many Casinos along the way as well.

The Mountains while not as large as other parts of the county are still Beautiful.

There are many places along the I-40 corridor that remember its roots on old route 66.

There are lots of Caverns to go visit. And while you are at it how about Fort Sumner, or go and see the gravesite of Billy the Kid.

Depending on what part of the state you live in, you are perfectly suited to weekend trips to Colorado, Arizona, the Grand Canyon, Hoover Damn, the London Bridge in Lake Havasou City Arizona. the Texas Canyons in Southern Arizona. And lets not forget Nevada.

You are also close to lots of tourist attractions West Texas and Oklahoma.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but I hope it helps you get ready for the move.

and you Have to go to the Caplin Mountain near Raton Pass it looks like a giant Mons Venis, it is actually an extinct Volcano the land around it is flat and it thrusts in the air.. Beautiful and if your like me and heights scare the crap out of you a freaking fantastic ride as the road winds around the outside of the mountain to the top and it is just a narrow paved road with a steep drop off on the passengers side.. the first time I drove up it I was white knuckled and went about 10 mph I was so scared.. the view at the top though is breath taking.. and you can walk the crater as well as in it..
