Sometimes the littlest things in life really do mean the most. And they can effect so many.

Most of us have at least heard of activities that take place with Father/Son teams...Mother/Daughter teams....And I think that is great. That is something neither will ever forget. Hopefully... A special time, a bonding time. Something just they get to share.
But what about Fathers who don't have sons...or Mothers who don't have daughters?

My oldest grand daughter is 10 and in grade school. She called me a few weeks ago all excited. Tonight, her school is having it's first ever Father/Daughter dance. But if they don't have a Dad, or he is unavailable....they can ask an uncle, grandpa, family friend, a friends dad..etc..

Some of the faculty is volunteering their time to be there. Tickets are $15 per couple, ($5 extra for each additional girl) which includes drinks, different things to munch on and a live DJ.

I got many text from her tonight after school..Her last text before bed said.."It's almost tomorrow. I love you more than bunches. Good nite sweet dreams. I can't wait" I don't know that she as ever been this excited about anything except maybe Christmas and her new baby sister.
The kicker is....So is her Grandma. Her Mom and her 'date'.

I have decided that regardless of this nasty weather, I am going to my daughters tomorrow night to see her in her pretty new dress that she picked out....Her excited smile and her being all grown up for her first official dance. And probably hundreds of pictures before and after.. As trivial as it may seem to some, money couldn't buy this happiness or excitement.

I think more schools should do things like this. How often do little girls get to have such a special time? And don't they all deserve it?
My daughter thinks they are going to do the same for Mother/Sons.

Have I ever mentioned how very much I Love being Grandma??

This brought back memories....

The night my daughter went to the military ball that was a once a year event in her high school NJROTC.

It takes a lot to bring tears to my eyes but seeing my little girl all grown up and dressed in a black evening gown, with her hair freshly done and her makeup done just right, did that. Her date being a new Marine all dressed in his full dress uniform.

I was happy for her but....

It was one of the saddest days in my life when I realized she was growing up and getting ready to face the world on her own. I no longer saw my little girl standing there but a beautiful young woman that had taken her place.

Thanks for that memory this morning while she is now serving in the Marine Corps............

Hey Grandma, Call the "Daddy" and remind him he has a DATE tonight, so show up with some flowers and leave the office elsewhere, for a few hours. He has a once in a lifetime opportunity here.

My father and I were best friends, and then Business partners. We played golf together, went of business trips together and I learned a lot from being close to my dad. Yeah I was spoiled rotten too.

I hope she has the time of her life. And I'd love to see some pictures.

Yes you have mentioned that to me a few (million) times, and I kinda took that for granted when you tell me to hold on so you can text your granddaughter back

I was just thinking last night after we hung up the phone that its amazing that you and I spend hours on the phone and we talk about our lives, our friends, and our families............sometimes I feel I know your family as if I lived next door to you.

And i would want to be there if it was my granddaughter too...........

I too have a granddaughter, and cannot wait til she is old enough to be excited about these types of things. Being an Oma is soo much more fun than being Mom... Enjoy it Trease!!!

I've never been the Grandmother, at least not yet, But I was the single Aunt that loved to take my niece for afternoon tea, and shopping. We always had fun together. Just wish I lived closer.

Enjoy them while you can

That's absolutley great Trease. I would love to do things like that with my Grand kids and have tried but I don't get to see them as often as I would like to and after what happened during Christmas I will probably never see them again. Yes I am very proud of my Grand kids but my kids are pretty much assholes so no more Grand kids for me. Sounds like you need to start leaving a tissue disclaimer as well. Have fun with them while you can sweetie.
