Believe it or not i found the article posted below online.A member of the Mississippi House of Represenatives introduced and is supportinga bill, that if passed would require restaraunts to keep and track Body Mass indexes of all patrons, to have scales at the doors in their establishments for that purpose.Anyone who has a BMI of 30 or above would automatically be refused service, and if the restaurants fails to comply their bussiness permit would be revoked. This is shocking, what's next howw many children one can have??.Honestly this country was founded on the principle of freedom, freedom of expression, freedom of religion, freedom to choose for ourselves.Abraham Lincoln, stated and advocated in his Gettysburg address " government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." More and more with each passing year city, state, local, and the federal government are decidiing and choosing what is best for us, without ever seeking the input of the people. This country was founded on democracy and its principals, so many of which are being taken away before our very eyes.A persond weight, their BMI , the foods, they choose to eat ( their diet) should be no ones concern but his or her own.People are quite capable of deciding for themselves , wiithout having government restrictions placed on them mandatorily. Thanks to all who take the time to read this, or comment on it, i appreciate your time.Peace.

That's right. If you live in the great state of Mississippi and you have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more, you may be denied service at restaurants soon.

There is a bill working its way through the Mississippi House of Representatives now that would require restaurants to refuse to serve patrons who are obese. The bill would require eateries to keep track of customers BMI's and have scales at the doors. The states Department of Health would be responsible for enforcing compliance, and would revoke business permits for those dining establishments that violated the legislation.

This bill was introduced by Representative W.T. Mayhall, JR. Though he doesn't think his legislation will actually pass, he is very serious about it. He is concerned about the "serious problem of obesity and what it is costing the Medicare system." You can read the full text of the bill at this link.useful. I also believe that it's not the role of government to lead in the persecution of some of its citizens. Sorry Mr. Mayhall, that's not a good way to get reelected.

I'm all for the government trying to protect its citizens and curbing its spending but I'm not sure this is the way to go about it. I think that prevention programs would be much more useful. I also believe that it's not the role of government to lead in the persecution of some of its citizens. Sorry Mr. Mayhall, that's not a good way to get reelected.

I see a lot of restaurants closing their doors due to lack of business. Our government working at its best again..........I agree that obesity is a problem in our country but i dont see how government regulations are going to help at all........next you will only be able to have one child per family........if you have blue eyes you can only eat out on tues and thurs..........if you have blond hair you will only be able to go grocery shopping on saturday..........all stupid ideas but if the one about obesity gets passed.........there will be many more stupid ones to follow. Wait, wouldn't that mean that Clooney couldn't be served? Thats right, according to the bmi he's obese and Brad Pitt is fat. The dam thing doesnt take muscle into account.

It's not exactly scientific... but perhaps thats why government types love it.

Thanks for the information , and link to the article.Beffygoblin i never doubted you, or thought you were not being genuine. Thanks for your comments, i agree i think that BMI is flawed and not an accurate determination of body content or health.Peace and thanks again.Have nice day.

I find it difficult to understand that 40 million americans don't have health insurance and the governments are wasting tax payers money on this kind of foolish legislation.

Ted Mayhall the Representative proposing this bill is not exactly a skinny man himself with his double chin and pudgy middle! Fortunately, Steve Holland, the head of the committee that would have to agree to send the bill to the floor for a vote has said that he'll use a "pocket veto" so that the bill will never make it out of committee. I can understand that he says he is just trying to raise awareness of the obesity problems his state is facing, but I'm thinking there are far better ways to do so. Arkansas has implemented a wellness program across the state including electd officials and has lowered the obesity rate in their state because of it. To me that shows that a state government can accomplish it without being discriminatory or nasty about it.

And just how do they plan on handling drive throughs and pizza delivery?....

Will it be illegal for grocery stores to sell twinkies and ho-ho's to these people?..

If you have a party...could you be held resopnsible for what they eat?...

And what about the vending machine area...

Most importantly, though....think about all those barbeque places.....
