Last night I was on the phone with a friend and I had music playing and I told her to listen to the beginning of a Kidd Rock song...So Hott....she asked me if I really listen to that kind of music....

I listen to just about any kind, type or genre of music... Depends on my mood and what's going on.... I love music..it can remind you of places or people, it can move you, motivate you, put you in a better mood, help you through something, give you something to focus on, relax you, make you move to it, make you feel good or laugh, set a mood, make you dance to it.........the list goes on.....

I have friends that pick on me for the different music I listen to. When asked my favorite....I can only answer for that ..day.or moment.
I mean I have favorites that I usually always like......Bon Jovi, Nickelback, Aerosmith, Seger, Reba, Tim McGraw, Kidd Rock, Yanni, Garth Brooks, Nelly, Meatloaf, 50, Justin Timberlake, Zepplin, Brooks and Dunn, Melissa Etheridge, Keith Urban, Kelly Clarkson, Fergie......and the list could go on and on and on....then on some more...

I love music...although there are some things I do consider more noise than music.. And others that just bore me..like umm the song beautiful by James Blunt. Yea, I know it's a popular song and lots of people like it.
I also know people who refuse to listen to other kinds other than one set genre....I don't understand that. But it's their choice even though I feel they are missing something.

One of my best friends 14 year old son is always telling me to listen to this, you'll really like it. and I'm willing to listen,,,usually til they open their mouths to start growling and not being able to understand not one word, if there really are words, lol .but it's still music --to him-- and occassionally I like some of it. He has a tee shirt with the saying "If it's too loud, You're too old".

When is it too loud and when are you too old?

Which brings me to my questions of Am I too old to like or listen to the music I listen to? How do you set your likings differently? What's your age group and what do you listen to? Do you limit yourself on what you listen to?

I just listen to songs I can relate to. I'm me and I don't try to label myself or be anyone else.

I love music. Period.

Of all genres, I prefer Heavy Metal. I justlike how pounding and powerful it sounds. It makes me want to dance and it's soooooo uplifting. You can't cry to Manowar!
But I also love Classical (Vagner and Vivaldi being my favs) Prog rock and guitar Shred, Muse, Tracy Bonham, Snoop Dogg, Grandmaster Flash, Yann Tiersen, Sister Sledge....bla the list is lengthy and beleive me...I could go on....

However, my friends are all very VERY stuck in their ways. My friend Raj refuses to listen to anything other than Extreme Black Metal. I personally don't like most of it, it just sounds like a car crash to me but each to their own. It is a little annoying though, when I try and show him something I like and he replies......"That's shit".

But Y'know what CasLkn, age should never be a barrier. If you like it, than you like it. Simple as that. Ronnie James Dio is 65 and still touring with Heaven and Hell (the original Black Sabbath lineup), lok at Ozzie Osbourne, Stevie Nicks, AGE IS ONLY A NUMBER!

That's it..........I am putting Your beautiful by James Blunt back as your ring tone on my cell.......

I like some of almost all kinds of music including some rap, the only kind i have never found anything I like is jazz. Music and type of music I listent to is dependent on my mood. But that song you were listening to last night was.........ummmm Yucky.........catch me in a different mood, I may just like it.............

Now sing with me............

My life is brilliant
My love is pure.
I saw an angel.
Of that I'm sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.
But I won't lose no sleep on that,
'Cause I've got a plan.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.

Yes, she caught my eye,
As we walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
Fucking high,
And I don't think that I'll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last 'till the end.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.

La la la la la la la la la

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it's time to face the truth,
I will never be with you.

Whatever holds my attention ... musicals (Les Miserables), country (Love, Me), Led Zeppelin, REO Speedwagon, Dan Fogelberg, Spandau Ballet, music from one-hit wonders too numerous to mention ... gosh all kinds ... lol. I grew up listening to music on the radio and never really bothered to know who was playing what. If I liked the music, I remembered the melody. I didn't bother to find out who produced it; didn't even bother with the lyrics, which were crap most of the time. As a matter of fact, I only realized I was a Dan Fogelberg fan when I went to college and started collecting CDs, that was when I realized that this one guy was responsible for so much of the music I relished from childhood.

I will listen to just about anything - and yes i do hac the soundtrack for Phantom of thr Opera. When I was in school, study music was primarily Handel, or Celtic music. When driving I have just about everything programmed in my radio - 60's and 70's rock, country, blues, and at present am listening to oldies- ya know, pre 70's.

Music - If I can't understand the words, its just noise. Bty, two of my all time favorites is from Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida and Skynard Free Bird - the live version.

Good question

I listen to almost everything... music is entertaining, soothing, comforting, mood setting, spiritual, emotional.... of course I can go on and on..... and I agree to each their own ~ however, I feel sorry for people who are so narrowly focused that they only see or hear one type of music - refusing to listen or attempt to understand anything different, because they don't know what they are missing..... music is an art, much like acting, painting and drawing and dancing. Some we will like, some we won't ~ but that never prevents me from experiencing something new or enjoying something different. It's called having an open mind

Excellent Blog topic! Thanks!!!

I like anything except opera and hardcore gangsta rap, but my favorites are southern rock and classic rock. I love me some Skynyrd and Bob Seger

When is it too loud and when are you too old?

When my son turns up his stereo...and according to him, ME! He listens to rap and hip-hop...and while lately he's been good about keeping it down, there are times when I've had to knock on his door cuz it's rattling the windows with the bass.

I like all types of music, rock, metal, blues and country. I have a CD I call "Singin' in the Car music" that has everything from Alyson Krauss and Sara Evans to Buck Cherry and Lords of Acid!

I listen to everything from pop to Jazz to blues I like country less than most music because in my mind the lyrics are too contrived. A wealthy country star singing about working? It don't quite enthuse me.

I play hard rock/metal just because the scales and chord progressions used suite my ears and iI love the heavy sound of distortion. The imagery of metal the skulls the demons is a big turn on as well lol...

Learning some jazz and country riffs has helped me as a bassist become well rounded in my playing. I'm thinking that is something a lot of younger musicians lack these days.

I'm trying to form a new band, around myself on bass, and a guitarist I met here in the boon doggles..

He's more into the metal sub genres of "death metal" and "black metal" even "doom metal and thrash metal" I'm from a different school of metal, I like "pop metal" and "melodic metal" as well as "prog metal"

When we get the band together we will end up sounding like a big orgy of Iron Maiden, Queen's Reich Metallica, Disturbed and Savatage

...But it is original and unique!

I would agree with you on that....
It sounds like it will be quite original and unique....both of those are good.
Good luck with it....

I listen to and enjoy a wide variety of music, but, most people would assume that I have only one choice/ taste/ kind as my preference.

Jan 18 @ 7:21PM
Just by looking at your pic MamMan...I'd say you were a Garth Brooks fan...based on the ball cap and the beer in your hand...

jk...I get what you're saying, most people would look at my son and assume he listens to one type of music, based on how he dresses...the difference is, they'd probably assume correctly.
