A Few Thoughts

There's still so much predudice in the world. I was round during the sixties when alot of societal taboo's were exposed as fears and hang ups. For a few years people seemed to respond to the calls of a more tolerant society...a society more understanding of minorities, but alas...we seem to have drifted back into the fifties. Right wing Christian organizations are springing up and gaining political power. Even scientific advances have been curtailed in the name of religion, specifically in the field of stem cell research.Things like gay marriage have been put on the back burner and African Americans suffer a more subtle form of discrimination. Phrases like ...Your either for us or against us....seem to be the popular mantra, which only serves to polarize a nation rather than achieve unity. Hopefully the up comming election will inspire a change for the better ...but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Sorry I don't have much time to read blogs, however I do like your words on this.

I have to disagree. It is not perfect but it is changing. Let me point out a few thinks that would never have been aroung in the 60's
1. Barney Frank in Congress. He is openly gay.
2. I don't watch much TV ( ouside of football games) but I heard their are gay sit coms.
3. Children born out of wedlock. Willam the Conquer was named William the Bastard before he conquered England.
4. High School girls in Denver sueing for materaty leave. In the 60's they would have been kicked out of school and "sent away"
5. Organize religion numbers are on the decline but grass roots churchs are springing up that teach "Love your enemy" and "Do not judge least you be judged"

And I am a conservative and a Christain.

Positive Change can only happen if the masses come together and hold on to their beliefs as one. This happened in the 60's.

There are so many people from so many countries with so many different beliefs now in the USA.

A president cannot change things, only the people can. And if the people don't demand change then change will not happen.

I could suck the band width from AMD posting on the topics of how to fix America. No really I don't just bitch about the problems I e-mail solutions to law makers.

The truth be told we are held hostage to big business, they sponsor our government, we will not get substantive change until we rid our system of private money, and we the people stand up and regain control. Ours is supposed to be a government of the people, by the people, for the people, but now days instead of the will of the people, they do the will of the party, the party does the will of the corporations and we lose!

good blog.... but it is one of those that I am not going to openly comment on, because I do not want to start WWIII!!!!!!

I love the new mantra.. "It's all about change, baby." And what will change? There will be a new face in the white house.. other than that.. same old same old.

It's not just the US either.. it's everywhere.

Good blog Borty. I definitely agree with what you have said, but all the comments below yours also make good point's 60's although very liberal and full of free love and openness towards our fellow man, no matter what race or creed. Was also a time of turmoil, and wars.

Sorry, Borty, I'm going to have to disagree with you on the part about the right wing christian organizations being racist. That's not what I see going on. On the contrary, I see more liberals who are preaching openmindness and tolerance in the U.S. today, but yet, most of them are the very ones who are prejudice about people who are different from them in skin color, political beliefs, and the fact that some of them don't believe in God that they put down Religion and the followers of Christianity.

...but I wouldn't hold my breath.
yeah cos then you'd be one of those blue people and you know how everyone discriminates against them........good blog Borty, worthy of a shingy green thingy!
