Usually every year we all buy gifts for everyone in the family. This year a few of my family members decided that it would be easier to pick names this year and just buy for that person. It does save on a lot, and sure, I don't mind going with that idea. Yesterday while we were having our Thankgiving in the beginning of it they passed around a container and one by one we all drew out of it. Since my mom wasn't here and decided to go up to Columbus to visit my sister and her family, and to stop over and have some Thanksgiving over at Doug's daughter's family house, I went ahead and drew three names, one for me and two for the both of them. Kim was also part of this and she drew a name as well. I ended up getting my cousin Jodie's name. Kim got my cousin Jamie's husband. I think he was joking about wanting sex toys. Everyone knows him being the goof that he is, but it's all good, we usually have a few laughs at his expense. The dinner was good where we got like a 20lbs turkey. Of course we had tons of other food as well, but the chocolate pies are what I crave. There was one thing that totally disappointed me however in the Thanksgiving dinner. Natasha was suppose to show up and never did. I waited around before I headed on up to my grandma's about 4:30pm. She didn't call or nothing. There's no way for me to get in touch with her since her friends phones are disconnected. I haven't heard from her in almost two weeks. But like I told Kim, I wasn't going to let that ruin my holiday. Not sure what's going on. but I will be having a little talk with her when I finally do hear from her. Anyway, what I would like to know is, how was your Thanksgiving, and do you buy for everyone in the family, or draw names?

We buy for everyone....we tried the name-drawing thing years ago...what a bust....too many disappointments .....and issues.....so now, everyone buys for whomever they please....works out better that way, although it can be very expensive....
And, yeah, Thanksgiving was GREAT!

We only buy for the children, our adults have to much stuff anyway,
Sorry to hear about your daughter, I have been keeping up with her in your blogs, but maybe this is a blessing, and after a little time apart from you, she will mature a little

...The first year we tried drawing names for everyone, it didn't work very well.. Grand parents complained that they would buy for who they felt needed a gift (very practical people) plus they still planned gifts for their grand children and that wasn't going to change, no matter how many lists were floating around.
The following Christmas we revised the drawing.. dropped the grand parents, and children out of the names. And left it between the married couples, With the understanding that the everyone bought for the children and grandparents however they desired. That plan worked out better.
All families are different..You just have to see what works out best for yours.

We have a large family so opted for the drawing of names 3 years ago. We each draw an adults name and spend 100.00 on them. We all buy for the children though there are only two of them at the moment. I still buy for my mum regardless of the name drawn as she is my dearest friend and I want to be able to show her how much she means to me.

Ah that's a significant optimization for sure. I treated myself to a huge pho lunch with iced Vietnamese coffee at the Little Saigon near my place. Best holiday wishes to you and Kim and hope Natasha is doing ok too.

We ate Turkey, mashed potatoes, homemade noodles, stuffing, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, steamed asparagus, watergate salad and of course Pie. I buy for my daughter, my Mom, my Brothers and SIL's. This year everyone but my daughter is getting a $20 raffle to riches ticket(Ohio Lottery) where they could win a Million Dollars on New Year's Eve! When my Dad was alive, we tried drawing names one year and my oldest brother complained that he had to spend $200 on gifts as his wife wasn't working!!! So we never did that again. My Mom spends the same amount of money on each family, say she spends $200 on my oldest brother and his wife, she spends the same on my other brother and his wife, she will then spend $200 on me, even though I am not married.(She usually spends more on me, as I am the Baby!)

Awww...sorry you didn't hear from your daughter. I worked on Thanksgiving...and after work I went over to my parent's for dinner..(I was actually early this year!!! ) and we had a nice evening.
As for buying for everyone or drawing names....we just buy for everyone...we tried the name drawing once...and it just didn't work. Of course I've had years where I just felt like giving some family members a card with some money in it and letting them buy their own gift.

Shawn, I feel bad for you that Natahia hasn't called you. I do hope that someday --soon--she will begin to learn responsibility and respect.
Thanksgiving was really good. I buy for my son in law, daughter and grandchildren. Then we join the two families and draw a name between the adults, with a $50 limit. No one tells anyone who they have. This year, I got my daughter...... That works for me...

Being as I have no kids, I usually buy for all of my nieces and nephews, but this year we all decided no gifts - but I always buy for my parents, so thats about it for me this year. I only get xmas day and boxing day off this year anyways, so no big deal!
Hope all goes ok with Natasha!
