Speaking as one who is part Irish (also part German, English and Dutch, with a pinch of Cherokee...or is it Apache?) I.....forgot what I was going to say.
BUT, I do highly recommend a book by Thomas Cahill ... "How the Irish Saved Civilization". Good read.
