These are songs that were one hit wonders in the 1980's.
I wrote a number of them down, looked up others at a Billboard site, and went to the VH1 website to confirm the dates.
I know I'm probably leaving out numerous good ones, so feel free to add any.
Funkytown---Lipps, Inc.---1980 "Won't you take me to Funkytown"....where exactly is that?
Turning Japanese---The Vapors---1980 I was always told this was a song about masturbation, but I don't know. If it is, then I turn Japanese quite often.
Rapper's Delight---The Sugar Hill Gang---1980 The original rap song.
Whip It---Devo---1980 Those hats were kind of freaky.
Double Dutch Bus---Frankie Smith---1981 Can anybody sing along with this one, all the way through?
Believe It Or Not---Joey Scarbury---1981 Theme song from "The Greatest American Hero"
I Want Candy---Bow Wow Wow---1982
Tainted Love---Soft Cell---1982
Pac-Man Fever---Buckner & Garcia---1982 I admit, I had the album!
I Know What Boys Like---Waitresses---1982 First heard this song on the movie "The Last American Virgin".
Mickey---Toni Basil---1982 She was on "Spelling Bee" recently.
Puttin' On The Ritz---Taco---1983 "Super Duper!"
She Blinded Me With Science---Thomas Dolby---1983
Too Shy---Kajagoogoo---1983
Come On Eileen---Dexy's Midnight Riders---1983
Der Kommissar---After The Fire---1983 I never undertood any of the words in this song, with the exception of "Oh Oh".
99 Luftballons---Nena---1984
Perfect Way---Scritti Politti---1985 I always liked this song.
Rumors---Timex Social Club---1986
I Wanna Be A Cowboy---Boys Don't Cry---1986 "I wanna be a cowboy...and you can be my cowgirl"...basically, that was the entire song...lol
The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades---Timbuk 3---1986
Breakout---Swing Out Sister---1987
Heart And Soul---T'Pau---1987
Hot, Hot, Hot---Buster Poindexter---1987 Actually, this should be thrown out, as Poindexter had a Christmas hit with "Is That You Santa Claus?"
Fascinated---Company B---1987 "I'm fascinated by your love toy". You gotta like that!
Love Changes Everything---Climie Fisher---1988 I'm commented on this song before. One of the ten most underrated songs of all-time.
Pump Up The Volume---M/A/R/R/S---1988
Don't Worry, Be Happy---Bobby McFerrin---1988 He hasn't sung this song in a decade.
Rock On---Michael Damian---1989 Wasn't this guy on "Young & The Restless"? Involved with Cricket, I believe.

Did "Come On, Eileen" make it? Or was that the 90s? Gaw, it all starts running together. Getting old sucks.

You just reminded me of why I hate most of the music from the 80's.

Great blog, although I never cared for 80's music, seems like I am more of a 70 or 90-now listener.

Those were the good ole days. Sugar Hill Gang had many hits on the rap charts and Thomas Dolby did work with many groups during the 80's and is still going. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
