These are my biggest fast food flops, associated with food and advertising, of all-time.

These deal with restaurants only, and not fast-food that you by at a store and cook at home.

1)---BURGER KING'S "WHERE'S HERB" ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN
Remember this fiasco? Burger King spent $40 million on a fictional character, named Herb, who had never eaten at Burger King in his life. They kept his identity a secret for months, until "Wrestle Mania 2", when he just turned out to be some average looking actor. Absolutely horrible.

2)---JACK IN THE BOX CHANGES IT'S NAME TO MONTERY JACK'S
Let me ask you, when you have a successful business, why would you change the name? That's excatly what Jack In The Box did in 1993, when they created a ton of confusion, by changing their name to Montery Jack's. That reminded me of Coca-Cola changing it's formula to new Coke in 1985. It just didn't make any sense. To their credit, however, they realized their mistake and quickly switched back to Jack In The Box.

3)---McDONALD'S INTRODUCES THE HULABURGER
Ok, I wasn't born in 1963, when this abortion was introduced, but I've read, and been told about it, and if it was as horrible as it sounds, then I'm glad I wasn't around. McDonald's wanted to come up with something that their Catholic customers could eat on Friday's, as a substitute for meat, and they came up with the Hulaburger, which was pineapple inside a bun. You heard me right...it was actually grilled pineapple, inside of a bun.
This has to be the biggest Mickie D's flop ever!

4)---WENDY'S FIRES THE "WHERE'S THE BEEF LADY"
In 1980, "Where's The Beef" became the most popular fast food advertising catchphrase of all-time. Clara Peller was the little old lady that made theat phrase famous. For those of you who were at least 10 years-old, you remember how popular that saying was. Now, as smart as Wendy's was for coming up with that campaign, they were equally as stupid for firing Peller, after she appeared on a Prego commercial.

5)---THE CARL'S, JR. COMMERCIAL FEATURING PARIS HILTON
I'm sure you've seen, or heard of this one. It's soft core porn, featuring Paris Hilton washing a car. Now, there were some positives, as it received a lot of press, but it only aired a few times, so they didn't get their money's worth, and they failed to understand that their target audience is kids and families.

6)---POPEYE'S
Granted, Popeye's is a extremely successful restaurant, but I always thought they missed on the name. Popeye was a sailor. What does he have to do with chicken. Outstanding food, but a flop for a name.

7)---McDONALD'S INTRODUCES THE "McPIZZA"
In the early 90's McDonald's tried to introduce a fast food pizza at a burger joint, and found out it just can't work. Yeah, that's what I want, to wait 10 minutes, at a McDonald's for a personal size pizza!

8)---BURGER KING GOES TOO MUCH HEALTHY
Througout the 1990's Burger King was enormously successful, and then they decided to introduce salads and more "healthy". From their loss of profits, they found out that doesn't work at fast food restaurants. In 2002, Burger changed ownership, changed their CEO, got back to being more meat & potatoes, and profits started to rise.

9)---THE BURGER KING'S FRIENDS
Ok , everybody remembers Ronald McDonald's friends from McDonaldland. There was the Hambugerglar, Mayor McCheese, and that oversized, hambuger-headed cop. Burger King introduce their version of similar characters. Who remembers "The Duke Of Doubt", "Sir Shakes A Lot", and "The Wizard Of Fries"? No one! That's why it was a flop.

10)---TACO BELL APRIL FOOL'S JOKE
In the 90's Tocao Bell was responsible for playing an April Fool's Day joke, in which they claimed to have bought the Liberty Bell and would rename it "The Taco Liberty Bell". Sure the people that believed it were silly, but so was the joke.

My 7 year old daughter refuses to eat at Burger King because of the creepy guy that runs around with the big head in their commercials.

WTF, nothing about sex or perversions; this blog (like most of mine ) doesn't have "leggs" If it can't walk, how can it fly?

Actually another flop in my opinion was when Jack in the box first went away from their tradmarked clown order board. the made a advertizing campaign where they blew up the clown. I dont think the realy ever estimated the impact on their business till 1993 when the brought jack back by him blowing up the CEOS in the board room.

Not sure I want to read perverted blog about people and their fast foods. However I am reminded of cartoon video of the taco bell dog fucking a burrito and saying yo quero talko bell.

I have only eaten at Burger King* once in my life. It was 1992 I think......
Every single bite of my burger had a giant piece of gristle in it!!!
After about my fourth bite I started gaggin' and had to throw it away
You know where they get their meat from dont ya???
Thats right.....dead clowns.......

I dont know where you find all these videos But they crack me up.....

If I remember the story right. the guy that started Burger King was the Partner of the guy that started McDonalds. they apparently had a falling out on how to prepare fries and went their seperate ways. Mcdonalds has had much more success through the years.

Here in Okla......all of the Jack-in-the-Box*es were shut down in the the very early 80's due to the discovery of the import and use of kangaroo meat from Austrailia....

WENDY'S FIRES THE "WHERE'S THE BEEF LADY"
I was a manager at Wendy's when that slogan came out. Unfortunately that slogan and "Hot and Juicy" over lapped each other. And Wendy's was notorious for their slogan buttons. BIG BRIGHT GET YOUR ATTENTION slogan/promo buttons. Do you know how much crap we took over wearing a Where's The Beef and a Hot and Juicy button????
One morning I had just had it. A guy told me that hot and juicy he could see, but where was the beef. I told him I left him in bed when I left for work that morning and slammed the window shut on him saying anything further.
I took the buttons off, threw tham in the trash and let all me employees take them off and told my district manager they could fire me. I wasn't wearing another promo button.
Stupid promotional ads.

You left off one of my favs, with an international flavor.

I think it was in the 70's, but not sure. Anyway, Kentucky Fried Chicken was just starting to expand into non-english speaking countries.

Their slogan, "finger licking good" didn't always translate well.

In one country, sales never really took off, until they discovered that their slogan translated to "KFC, makes your fingers fall off".

Ranks right up there with the Chevy Nova campaign in Latin American. No one thought to check the translation of No Va. The literal translation is Won't Go. Great name for a car, eh?
