A metrosexual is a heterosexual man with a strong concern for his appearance. It is also a term joked upon people, as certain subway systems in various parts of the world are called Metro; this led to a non-related association that the word means person who has sex in the subway! Anyway, my question is how many of you guys fall under the category of being a metrosexual man? Some people think that metrosexual men are gay. I don't think that's true....JMO. So how many guys in the AMD world like to get manicures, facials (not the sexual kind) , pedicures, etc. ?

The phrase was first coined in the UK in an article in one of the national papers a few years ago. An example at the time of a metrosexual was David Beckham who although solidly heterosexual was comfortable enough in his own sexuality to be able to show his "feminine side" by using grooming products - like moisturisers - that were traditionally the domain of women; as well as happy to be pictured wearing a sarong or even apparently wearing Victoria beckhams underwear.
He was spposed to be one of the new generation of men who were capable of showing mildly feminine traits and tended to live in cities (hence the metro part of the name) but rhymed with Hetero as they were not considered gay.

[B]Is "Metrosexual" really out there in use by ordinary people? I thought it never got beyond a handful of writers for things like New York magazine, Esquire, Vanity Fair etc. And was mainly used as a pejorative label to ridicule affluent, fashion-conscious urban men. A swear word in America's watered-down class war.

I'm somewhat of a metrosexual. I even did a blog about it almost a year ago on here. Nothing wrong with a guy being pampered like a woman.

Not me. I'm a "retrosexual".
Some people think that metrosexual men are gay.
I would suspect that some of them are in the "I'm not sure" category.
I was tailgating at a football game with some bears, and my friend's friend looks at me and says "I can tell you're not gay." "Really? how?" "Your beard line isn't perfectly cut."

I care about my personal appearance. It's called looking manly. Not looking feminine.
