So the other day I was a substitute teacher. Was OK I guess. Better than some other jobs I have done, but I don't think its something I would want to do all the time.

Hell, Ice.. don't you know you need combat pay for subbing? But I have an idea for you if you are the creative sort and plan on sub teaching over the years.

Once upon a time, in the time of my youth, I lived in a very small community. One of those places where you never leave lol. Anyway, there was this retired teacher who subbed when needed. He was a very tall imposing black man with a style very like Sidney Portier. His wife taught latin at the high school. We loved that guy from the first day we met him in kindergarten and even years later in high school when we were lucky enough to have him in our classroom.

He was a writer and very creative. I can still remember the very first day I had him as a teacher... yes, I was indeed in Kindergarten. In preparation for the day, he had obtained a class roster and had written a very neat story which included all of our names and at story time.. that is what he read to us as we all sat in quiet amazement. Every time he subbed for a class, he would write stories or poems about the day, who was there, etc. and the next time he taught that class, he would bring out all those old poems and stories and read them for us.

He was indeed a very cool man, and nobody ever game him any shit!

Having had the opportunity to teach in the past, let me say, there is nothing like the feeling of seeing the "spark" in the eyes of a student when they "get it" is NOT for everyone...But there are those special ones we all remember...the ones who touched our lives, and changed us forever....

Mine was a soft spoken man who taught us about people and life, and instilled in me the belief in the pursuit of non-violent solutions to political differences.....It was only after he passed away a few years ago, that I discovered he was awarded the Medal of Honor during the Korean war.

Speaking of teachers- [and not belittling the profession in any way] where the hell were all those hot, horny blonde teachers that are getting busted [even recently] taking advantage of male students, when I was in school?? Hell, get laid and get an "A" in your class to boot? Whadda deal!
