When you give up your dreams, there's a part of you inside that just dies. And sometimes we still try to hold on but never have the nerve or the energy to go after them and so they slowly fade out of reach.
Why is it that so many people take the easy road? The one most traveled. But yet they gripe and complain about life being not what they want or what they hoped for? Day after day, seeing the same thing and wondering how we got here, instead of taking the road that would surely be a dusty and bumpy ride, but would jar us out of our seats and make us laugh with constant bouncing around. Sure, we might get a few bruises but what a ride it would be with a smile to appear on our face everytime we thought of it. Kind of like when you are young and the biggest roller coaster scares the hell out of you but you just can't not ride it, just once. It's the biggest rush. You scream, hold on for dear life, your heart is about to jump through your throat and your last meal is about to revisit you. But when the cars come to a stop, you don't want it to be over and as soon as you catch your breathe, you find yourself saying "Let's go again."
When did so many people outgrow that sense of adventure? That want for some excitement in life, with an edge on not knowing.
We show it in simple things....being afraid to go after a new job or education. Making excuses not to meet someone because we might end up getting our hearts broken or our egos bruised. Not going roller blading or ever chancing falling in love again because you might fall on your ass and look like an idiot. Most of the time, we are our own worst enemies and critics.
So many say they want to do these things but when push comes to shove, it's amazing the excuses the mind can muster. Hell, what's the sense in putting on a parachute and going up in a plane when you know chances are you're never going to jump out? What ever happened to a leap of faith? Faith in yourself? Just closing your eyes and allowing that rush to scare you and excite you and give you that feeling like no other. How many dreams have we given up because our minds or our hearts talked us out of them?
Life is short, but it's meant to be lived. And that can mean so many things.....

I would say there is nothing wrong or unhealthy about self preservation........sometimes its best to say that I would rather have nothing......than to think i have something wonderful and find it all was an illusion......Sometimes it isn't an excuse.........sometimes its defeat...why keep beating your head against the wall wanting something that you are never going to have................

That's part of my point. We don't know if we can ever have it,or do it, until we get passed the illusions and find reality.

I fully agreee with this. Maybe I worded part of this wrong. I'm not saying be stupid or loose all common sense. I'm just saying take a risk sometimes, instead of always sitting on the sidelines expecting to feel the excitement of actually playing the game.

I think one's approach to life is controlled, to a large degree, by the lessons we learn as children.....or the ones we DON'T learn.....As I was growing up, parents always taught their children to swim....the method was simple....they took you to the swimming hole, (or pool, if you lived in a rich community)...and simply threw you into the deep water....and yelled instructions to you from the safety of dry land...lol...

But in fact, it wasn't a swimming lesson, but a lesson on life...at that moment in time you learned that no matter what life threw at you, you could decide to do nothing and sink to the bottom, or do something, and stay on top...

For all the things I learned from my parents, that was the most valuable one.....
