I admit, much like yourself, that I too, want to know where the door out is. If you are asking what door, I’ll have you know, it’s the one over there that takes you to a far better place. A place where self acceptance and tolerance of others is the norm. A place where we can breathe a sigh of relief, just knowing that everything is going to be perfectly fine after all. Don’t think I’m kidding myself. I know its got to be here somewhere, damn it.

Everywhere you look there is chaos. We have a teacher in Oregon filing a lawsuit to allow, of all things, the carrying of guns to school. Surely someone such as yourself must agree that there is a tiny problem with that. This is a day and age where many kids can not even take a pair of scissors to school. If that isn’t enough, then there are all the issues surrounding illegal immigrants in our country. Do we let them stay or not? Sure, their presence is causing some real financial conundrums, but if you think about it, most of us would not be here if it weren’t for the fact that somewhere down the line of our family trees, someone arrived by boat with little more than a few dollars lining their pockets. Yeah, I know. Many people see them as criminals. Let's just round them all up and send them back to wherever they came from! Sounds good, but when you consider the fact that when this is done, often, within mere weeks, they are right back again… working the same jobs, living in their own homes, and enjoying spending time with their families, just like you and I do.

Oh and what about that 20 year old who went on a shooting spree? He was a sheriff’s deputy as well as a part time police officer in a neighboring town. Yeah, he was off duty when he did that, but you have to ask… what on earth is a 20 year old doing in a position like that to begin with? I know I have a 20 year old too. Would I want MY 20 year old in a position like that? Hell no! Besides not even being the age of legal majority, most 20 year olds are just too.. Face it. They are still kids at that point and much to immature to handle that kind of responsibility for the most part.

And while I’m on a roll here, what about the wacked out “nanny laws” being passed in virtually every state? Did you know in Ohio, for instance, it is illegal for a owner-operator of a commercial vehicle to smoke in their own truck? You bet your ass it is.. That is considered to be a place of work. This gem of a law was passed back in October of just last year (2006) We all know that smoking in places of work is against the law in most states. I would love to see how they are going to attempt to enforce that one.

Did you know that in Rhode Island, there is a law which says that restaurants cannot prepare any foods using those dreaded trans fats. But you say that’s a good thing? Trust me on this one. The food was bad enough up here to begin with. Did they have to make it even worse? Don’t know what I mean? You come up here and try to get a decent pancake for breakfast. The damn things are so tough and rubbery you could easily manufacture automobile tires from that particular concoction. We were all raised on items containing trans fats and although they aren’t real good for you, I can guarantee that if you are reading this, then you obviously aren’t dead.

Whatever happened to that wonderful thing called “Personal Responsibility”? It’s the fault of McDonalds that we are overweight. It’s the fault of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, or maybe even FEMA, that all those poor people down in New Orleans went through so much hell back when Katrina struck. I confess to you, nobody shoved that quarter pounder down my throat or forced me to super-size that extra value meal and nobody forced them to live in a town which is below sea level and surrounded by water on 3 sides. Oh I do have empathy for them, don’t take it the wrong way. I simply think that people should consider that they chose to be there.

What a fucked up world it is, where the average size woman wears a 14 yet what the runways of the fashion world flaunt, are ladies who are 5’9” and weigh about 120 pounds. My daughter.. the one who is 20, incidentally, is about that height and weight. She stays there by drinking Red Bull and a plethora of those other similar energy drinks. She can’t go camping or even hiking with me. Honestly, even going shopping with me is quite taxing for her. You want to know why? It’s simple! She can’t keep up. She may be thin and look real good, but she is so out of shape that anything requiring minimal amounts of activity.. Well it’s just too much. Back in the day when I was her size (an 8) I weighed 155 pounds. I could have run a marathon, had I chose to. I did aerobics 5 x a week and lifted weights 3. Maybe we should pass laws banning those caffeine and chemical loaded drinks.

I propose that another country is established. One where there is no unreasonable taxation, no wacked out laws which infringe upon our personal freedoms, one where our rights are truly protected. Stupid me. Those were the reasons that the colonies chose to break away from England, thus forming the United States of America. Maybe we should just stop making new laws and enforce the ones we do have, and repeal those that are simply ridiculous.

So where the hell is that exit anyway? I will tell you, I believe its right here in our own conscience and heart.

Nice Blog....worthy of a Kudo.
For it's content and willingness to present open opinions on a variety of topics outside of AMD ( who would have thought that something could be more important).

I accept most of your views and can support how strongly constructed you have formed them. Now, here comes the but.....I know, I know, goes against strict AMD policy to totally agree or shut the hell up & sit in the corner.

As far as New Orleans....yes, "those people" chose to live there. "Those people" knew the risks that were involved. But, let us admit that this is not some new settlement. And, by their own reports, the plan for the levee system were faulty. This coming from the Army Corps of Engineers. I feel confident that the well-heeled visitors that paraded through the city each Mardi Gras and SuperBowl did not feel that their safety was in jeopardy. So, to make a kind of backwards slam on "those people" for making the choice to live in a screwed up area is to be kind.... wrong & mean-spirited. I have noted that you did not chose to include those "moron" Minnesotans as an example of stupidity for living in a place with a crappy bridge waiting to collapse. Nor those "best and brightest bungling" New Yorkers for being in a building that could be hit and collapsed. Let us not forget those "wild and wacky" Columbine kids that kept going to school with a couple of sociopath gun freaks.

Tragedy occurs in life....at any time. To anyone. It does not choose gender, race, national origin, nor a vast array of qualities you could name. It happens. Why do you think the phrase became so well-known and popular?

As I stated clearly in the beginning, I feel you have created a nice blog. Worthy of a kudo. But, stomping any humans down after a tragedy not of their own making...in my opinion is wrong. If ALL others disagree, so be it. And, if you have a strong argument against this point, please state the same.

I appreciate your work, SoM, and I hope you will chose to continue to blog in the future. Thank you for your attention.

a big difference between my family who immigrated here leagaly, and those who sneak in against the law. they dont pay taxes and stress the system.

News flash Maxximus nobody immigrated here legally, this country was stolen and is currently illegally occupied. A government of illegal immigrants invaded this county, stole it from the native inhabitants and set up an squater government on the natives land. Read your history, the problems this country is currently facing we all planted in the past, they have now fully bloomed. Get familiar with native rights, this will be a hot issue for the twentyfirst century.

It is an entertaining rant, I'll give you that.

The age of legal majority is 18 in most places in the US. 19 in a few, 21 in fewer. If you're particularly liberal with your definition of US, it is as low as 14 in a few places.
