Election time is getting closer by the day. Do you have any idea who you are going to vote for yet? I'm not asking who...... I'd rather not get into a political debate. I'm just wondering if anyone is paying attention to the issues or viewpoints of any of the candidates seriously yet. Or do their views, campaign promises and records mean anything when you choose who is going to run our country next?
I've heard it said this is going to be the most controversial election yet. What do you think?

I have always looked forward to the presidential election since I was 17 (even though I couldn't vote till I was 18). As it looks now I'm not too happy with my Republican choices. I was hoping Gingrich would have decided to run, but he chose not to this time around. I think he would have been the best choice. I like what he did with the "Contract with America" back in 1995. Right now it's still up in the air on who I wil vote for come Nov. 2008.

I personally usually wait until it gets closer before I start listening real closely. I think that there are some good candidates out there, and then i think that there are some poor choices out there. I personally never fully agree on one entire candidate. I always have wished that they would be like a puzzle..... we as American voters should be able to take pieces of each candidate that we like and build our own candidate.......there you go yahoo...... a presidential avatar!!!! lol!!

Thanks for the idea Ash. Maybe I'll vote afterall.
Please remember people that there are other means of political change. For example, history demonstrates that the Judicial Branch constitutes an effective means.

I appreciate the answers, but I didn't ask who you were voting for. (Although Willie might have some different viewpoints and he does speak his mind lol ) Just If anyone is paying any atention to any of it and if you know yet who you are seriously considering. Does any of it matter, or do you vote for nonrelated issues?
I was somewhere the other day and I heard a discussion where one person said they will vote for Hilary Because she is a woman and it is time for a woman to be president but the woman she was talking to said she will vote for Obama Because United States will get along better with some other countries If we have a black man as president. I wondered if either of them know anything about either candidate other than a gender and what color he appears to be.
I realize that voting sometimes, okay pretty much always, is like a crap shoot. But do many people honestly vote based on color, nationality and gender ? Or do we really close our eyes and roll the dice?

I always like to vote for the guy/gal who is least likely to get us nuked. Seriously.. look at the choices we have? all of them are idiots.. though Hillary didn't do too badly in her last 8 years so maybe she can get us some healthcare this time around.
Watching the debates is a waste of space in my opinion. It's all bullshit anyway.. no one ever tells the real truth about what they will do in office.. in office what they will do is waste tax payer money and fuck up relations with other countries.
I dunno.. maybe I'm jaded.. but I'm tellin ya .. there are a couple of candidates, who, if they win.. I'm moving to Canada.

For me it's to long to tell how many lies there will be told before election day. I can tell you this, anyone not willing to were a pin on there coat showing there support for America won' get my vote.
I made a prediction last year on our sister site. The next president elected would be of skull and boens
On our sister site, look up funguy007 for more info.

If it were tomorrow, no. But yes I always vote. I feel if you don't get out and vote then don't bitch about it later if you're not happy with who is in there! But if we were gonna talk about who we would vote for or who we wish were running ........I wish Ann Richards were alive to run (former Governor Texas) or hey why not Kinky Friedman (past candidate Governor, Texas) together they would have really been a hell of a team!

Yes, as much as possible, I'm trying to discern important differences between the candidates. That said, I already have political leanings that supersede the idea of a totally open field for me. In other words, I'm aligning myself with a political party already, because their platform most closely matches my own, if not perfectly. Choosing whom to vote for in the primary, in my opinion, should strike a balance between policy stances and electability. I can think of at least one candidate who is extraordinarily sharp and who, sadly, doesn't have a prayer of getting into the white house. I need someone with political capital to spend; otherwise, it's pointless. Gotta play the game a little bit!

just any democrat, the republicans have robbed the poor and gave way to much to the rich conservatives! That is not a good way to vote!
I vote based on issues that are important to me....not by party. There's good points and bad points with both parties. Both are gonna "lie and kiss ass" for the vote....like someone else here said..it's a "crap shoot" basically.
