I look back to when I was a kid, things were so much simpler....
We could walk to school along the highway for 2 km's and our parents wouldnt worry...
We could go floating down the creek for 6km's down to the river and our parents would know we were safe....
We could skate down the creek in the winter time, avoiding all the cracks, being safe as we were taught, and our parents would know we were safe.....
We would do stupid things, get punished by being grounded, or spanked, but we respected our parents, and our parents knew we would be ok.....
Life has changed so much since then, things arent so safe, things arent nearly as simple, and kids can call "wolf" when there really is nothing wrong....
How do we keep our kids safe these days? How do we know that even when we instill our good values, and wisdom in them, that they will not be influenced negatively by this world? I dont have kids, but I have nieces and nephews, and I am afraid for them, for what this life will bring to them.
I was brought up with great values, believing in honesty 100% of the time, knowing right from wrong, knowing how to respect others.... this has been instilled in all my nieces and nephews, but after a certain age we only can hope that they live their lives by what has been instilled.....
All I can do, any of us can do is pray that life is good, and all the children can survive this scary big world!
Have a great weekend everyone, and thanks for listening to my thoughts....

It's difficult being a parent these days, worrying about what will happen to our kids!
I wish it was like it was when we were kids again... *sigh* The good old days

It is a scary and sad world. More and more children seem to be diagnosed with mental illnesses. I wish the safe times could come back.

Your children are mix of products, some by you and some by society..... I know the very things that my kids upset me over are the exact same things I do .... it really is true the apple does not far fall from the tree, however outside influences we have very little control over, yep its true, yes so set the control on the tv, set the control on the pc, then keep them in the house 24-7 cause thats the only way to bring back the good ole days, and hey if you try that you can rest assured someone is gonna call the DCS...... or in ther places DHS....

It's a whole different planet we live on now, I don't know who stole the old one or exactly when they did it but our old world is gone, replaced by this crappy imitation.

Consider: the fruit don't fall far from the tree.
Also: there's nothing new under the sun.

More and more children seem to be diagnosed with mental illnesses.
Do you mean ADD and other similar new fangled disorders that used to be classified as boys being boys? acting up, not paying attention, day dreaming? instead of allowing them to grow in their own way and time, we now pump 'em full of drugs and call that progress.

Life was easier at one time. I wouldn't want to grow up in today's world.

If you think your parents didnt worry about you sweetie, you most likely are wrong. They just didnt have the things to worry about that parents of today have to worry about. I remember one time telling my mother thank god you didnt have to worry about us like i have to with my kids, and she asked me if i was nuts (which actually belonged in a whole different conversation) She told me of course she worried about us, it was just that she could only do so much and that was to instill a set of values and morals to make the right decision, and she hoped for the best. Basically, thats the most I could do for my children too.

The only thing I can say that hasn't been said is guide your children by what I do not what I say. If you live you life as an ex sample they will follow. All my children are grow and I tell them the same thing. Be truthful with your kids and guide them and when they are grown they will know right from wrong. Loveableone a Kudo for you. This is a subject heavy on all parents mind.
