I have a tale a tale of a fateful trip, lol ...... no kidding I sent someone to the salvation army in a state other than my own, he is low on money, and for other reasons needed school clothes for his child ,so I was thinking how ..... so I did the calling got the date and time to come in , so he goes but does not get the personal things a 13 yr old needs, I call again and say hello how are you , and could you tell me who I need to speak to regarding undergarments for a 13 yr old(meaning a bra) yall would know a man answered the phone and had no intention of letting me any farther..... he starts off about has your friend attended our mandatory classes(all for help?). I said no I dont suppose but tell me and I will let him know .... so anyway its self help classes, that no one mentioned when he went in,so by now the fella on the phone is full of himself, speakin in a level speedy voice he informs me that if he did not attend he would recieve no future services( thinking did I dial the right number? This is a charity correct? People dont items to help someone else?) So by now he is talking to me like I am dirt under his shoe.... I say ok look here I am getting really tired of this, tell me who you work for . The fool hollers out GOD... I work for GOD ..... I say well usually there is a man or two between you and him ..... now tell me again who you work for .... so he finally gives it up..... course the fella was on vacation ...to sum all this mess up .... he did get what he needed, the child did good , all is well ..... My question to yall is , do you donate to the Salvation army? I was simply astounded at how somone that came for assistance would be treated.... "we hear all kind of stories" "we dont know who to trust" I said you mean you have a questionare to recieve anything ? Its bad enough to have to ask for help and worse to think the charity thinks your lying ...... so to get help must you give up all your dignity ?

The Salvation Army in my humble opinion is one of the better "Christain" based charity organizations, and it is a shame that the actions of one person would reflect upon the entire organization.

Maggie,,,I have only one thing to say,,,it all depends on the idiot that is volunteering that thinks he has been given a position with power....and mistreats the wrong people....people in need,,,,that must go to them because they have no other way of providing for their children....thanks for sharing your story.....

Every time I have worked with the Salvation Army they proved to be very caring. I have only been on the giving end and by the grace of God not the receiving end. One organization I belong to helps ring the bells at Christmas. I am amazed at the number of people who come up and say the Salvation Army helped them or someone it their family. Sounds like you hit one of the few bad ones. If you call back ask to speak to an officer.

Yeah, depends on the person running the particular outpost. In La Grande, Oregon they wanna know how freakin much toilet paper you use and if you use an official brand and every freaking thing you ever thought in your life about G_D. Needless to say I didn't get any assistance there.

Everywhere else I have been, it's been a positive thing. They will even help you find a job, make sure you have clothing for the job etc.

Usually they will ask you if you would 'like' to attend services, but demanding that you do? that's just nutz. (and i know nutz)

The Salvation Army is one of the very few charites that I donate money to. I donate money to the cops too...so I can keep my Meth lab in operation.
