AMD-AM continues its trek through the Darkside. Today’s offering is a tragic tale of love and suicide by another of my favorite “dark” bands of the time, Blue Öyster Cult a psychedelic/heavy metal band probably best known for two songs: their 1976 single "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" from the album Agents of Fortune, and their 1981 single "Burnin' for You" from the album Fire of Unknown Origin. The band’s name comes from the famous Long Island "Blue Point Oysters." (The name was suggested by; critic Sandy Pearlman. Pearlman was very influential for the band, getting them gigs and using his poetry as the basis of many of their songs, (The umlaut was added later.) They became a successful heavy metal band during the 1970s. At a time when the genre seemed tired and old-fashioned, Blue Öyster Cult released records that combined powerful music and intelligent and funny lyrics. They are still playing in the 21st century. So here is todays selection:
Blue Öyster Cult
"(Don't Fear) The Reaper"
Composer : Donald Roeser
All our times have come. Here but now they're gone. Seasons don't fear the reaper Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain We can be like they are (Come on baby) Don't fear the reaper (Baby take my hand) Don't fear the reaper (We'll be able to fly) Don't fear the reaper (Baby I'm your man)
La La La La La... La La La La La...
Valentine is done. Here but now they're gone.
Romeo and Juliet Are together in eternity Romeo and Juliet (40,000 men and women everyday) Like Romeo and Juliet (40,000 men and women everyday) Redefine happiness (Another 40,000 comin' everyday) We can be like they are (Come on baby) Don't fear the reaper (Baby take my hand) Don't fear the reaper (We'll be able to fly) Don't fear the reaper (Baby I'm your man)
La La La La La... La La La La La...
Love of two is one. Here but now they're gone.
He came last night out of sadness And it was clear that she couldn't go on Then the door was open and the wind appeared The candles blew and then disappeared The curtains flew and then he appeared (Saying don't be afraid) Come on baby (And she had no fear) And she ran to him (Then they started to fly) They looked backward and said goodbye She had become like they are (She had taken his hand) She had become like they are (Come on baby) Don't fear the reaper

Side note, off topic; I'm thinking of quitting these "musical blogs". Reason: while they appear to be viewed a lot I'm not getting a lot of positive feedback except from a few loyal "fans" and I thank them immensely. I started, and continue with, these "musical blogs" because I believed them to be a welcome escape from the ordinary and while I still believe that, I'm unconvinced that many of you do. So I leave it in your hands as to whether I go on with this or just burn the "station" down. Let me know what you think!

BOC remains one of the best live retro bands out there and they always have been an excellent live band even if they could never settle on an identity of style. They are still on tour today, and the core of the band remains intact and so the life shows feature the polish of crafted live rock and roll. "On your Feet or on Your Knees", a double live album from circa 1975, is generally considered the best live rock and roll album from the period.

Do you really wanna make a little country girl cry? (don't answer that.....just don't stop)
I was actually hoping for perhaps some Night Prowler or something....the whole darkside thing you know.
I really hope you don't quit. I'd hate to have to...
