Regardless of popular opinion this is not a tune by Janis Joplin nor is it from a Janis Joplin album, no It is “Big Brother & the Holding Company” from their 2nd album “Cheap Thrills” featuring lead singer Janis Joplin, who did not appear on their 1st album and left the group following Cheap Thrills to form her own group Kozmic Blues Band. Those of you old enough to remember the album, that fantastic cover art was done by Robert Crumb or just R. Crumb as he became known. R. Crumb was the cartoonists that created “Mr. Natural” a character appearing from time to time in the Gilbert Shelton comic book “The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers” featuring the characters , Freewheelin' Franklin, Phineas T. Freakear and Fat Freddy Freekowtski with regular appearances by Fat Freedy’s Cat. Alright, alright enough traipsing down memory lane, on to the tune which was composed by : Bert Berns and Jerry Ragovoy.

Okay, so it's not a Janis Joplin song originally - she is still the one people think of when they hear it...no matter who's singing (Faith Hill did a remake of this one, too, and I even liked her version...of course, Faith Hill rocks anyway :)
Janis's biography was on this morning - fitting that I'm seeing this now :) Two thumbs up for this one!
