Thinking that we get to vote so that our interests are represented in government
In order to run for political office, you need so much money that the only way to get it is to either be a CEO of a major corporation or sponsored by one to carry out their interests. The goal of a ceo is profit, and to maximize that profit by keeping the people as poor as possible without having a rebellion on their hands.
They call capitalism "democracy"
By democracy, they usually mean "free trade" which means that the companies run the country, creating a plutocracy (a government run by the rich, such as ours). Socialism, by definition, is rule by the people, which is how I believe those of us who arent CEOs would define democracy.

Because all news outlets in america are corporate owned, all news we recieve is what the rich want us to hear. Living in los angeles, I've seen enough massive demonstrations and brutal police supression to amaze people, however police supression prevents the poor from making demands such as workers rights and fair wages, and are thus vital to the position of the owners of these companies.
