I have my grand daughter for the weekend. She's almost 10, actually going on twenty something sometimes. She is extremely smart, honest and observant. And she will give you her opinion, when asked for it. But always lovingly, and never rude. Yesterday was one of those days.
We had gotten ready, earluer in the day, with the intent of going and doing something but now quite sure. When we made up our minds and going to a late lunch was in the mix. She looked at me and said "Are you going to change first, Grandma?" HUH??? I asked her "Why? Was there something wrong with what I had on? " she informed me that if I moved certain ways someone could see my bra straps and tell what color it was. And that isn't very lady like.........Maybe if it were white people wouldn't think anything of it.........Oh My Gosh!!! I explained to her that it was only a small piece of the strap, if I moved right, and you see bras on women on tv all of the time. They could not see the important part of my bra. ( did that sound like a child trying to justify something?) She said "yeah, women shouldn't let men see their bras on tv unless they are married to them. And they are usually white. Not red...." As was my face about that point also, I think. I went in and changed tops, so the neckline didn't show any of my bra. Although I saw nothing wrong with it to begin with, and I do not let Anyone dictate what I wear. I didn't want her to be uncomfortable. She said she wouldn't be but...........Grandmas have to be a positive influence and role model. I sure hope she keeps these opinions when she is going through her teenage years...Oh please let that happen....... :-) I have been lovingly scolded by a 10 year old.. I'm still in shock..........
