I need some help. I have a friend who's daughter has ran away from home. She is almost 16 years old. A beautiful girl. The cops have been called, everyone is looking for her. Including me.

Now this is where I need some info from people who may have teenagers that use the internet. This girl who ran away was on a website called "Mirc" Or "Merc". I have never heard of it. On Thursday night (the night she ran away) she was on this website talking to some guy. Then she got off of her computer and went outside and got into a car and was never seen again. I want to know if anyone knows of this website. Or even the correct spelling on it.

I am scared that she will not be found. Her parents are worried sick.

My daughter is 12 and I have told her time and time again she is not allowed to chat on the computer at all. I told her about all the men who lie about their age. They will find you and kidnap you. Yeah I use the scare approach but I am hoping in my childs case it will work.

Now back to finding this young lady of my friends. Please if anyone knows the correct name of this website I would appreciate it.

Today I am going to go with her dad to where she goes to school. Start asking questions of kids that we see out at the stores ect. It is a small school and a few small stores in the area.

I want to say Thanks in advance for any info my friends on AMD can give me. I am not sure how much I will be on today as my mission is to try to find her before she ends up dead. That is my biggest fear.

Hopefully, the cops who are looking for the teenager, have enough common sense to enlist the aid of someone who has the ability and the tools to trace the email(s) and/or forum discussions, back to him/her!

Then they'll know who they're looking for and where he/she lives which will narrow the search down!!

You're probably referring to some software called: mIRC- it's a free software download that is used much like Yahoo!'s Instant Messenger or AOL's AIM. It has the capability of connecting chat rooms and/or websites with people for a particular function. For example, I've used it years ago to get access to a few financial websites- to watch in real time, how stock trades were being made etc.

mIRC's home page is here:

http://www.mirc.com/

Also, don't forget about the Amber Alert system!

http://www.amberalert.gov/

I have everything I can cross, crossed!

I hope she is found and the piece of crap that picked her up, is prosecuted to the max!!

Yup skinonskin has mIRC right. Mostly it's a chat server with a place to list your 'room'. There was a time when you couldn't list unless you were over 18.. evidently that's changed now.

Let me put her on the global prayer team listing please? email me her name .. just the first name is fine.

Dang.. I went to get you the addy for the WebAngels site.. not the software but the ladies who keep tabs on pedophiles and they are gone.. shoot.

MIRC isn't a website. It's a program. IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat, the M stands for the name of the company providing it. The other program of the same variety is PERCH. Which server she would have been is beyond me although if I had her computer in front of me I could easily tell you.

Kids are kinda dumb when it comes to IRC and they tend to keep their user name and password in the programs so all they have to do is hit connect and they are there. They also tend to keep a list of favorite rooms on the assorted servers so that they can get to them quickly.

All they are though is chat programs. Kind of like yahoo only without the ability to send instant messages or do file transfers and all that kind of stuff.

Is CyberAngels still around?

Another element of note is that old habits die hard. Many people on IRC networks (there are several) use the same names again and again for their screen names. If you can find out the screen name you can find out where she is. IRC allows for checking user status, and the more advanced search software can let you know the ISP that is being used.

Nacho gave a better description for mIRC then the examples I gave!

Let's do a short cut so that you don't have to read everything on mIRS's website!

This is a typical set up I have linked to below:

I am not affiliated in any way with SVT Cobra- it's just an example site I found, for your convenience!

Hope that helps!
