Steve Irwin Where are you???? posted 5/26/2007 6:48:39 PM | 0 kudos what's this?     report abuse   Bardog_6 As I was sitting on my coach listening to my favorite baseball team getting killed on the radio I heard my dog start barking his head off. Now Hank is the biggest wimp in the world and usually doesn't bark a lot so I was instantly curious. I walk out side and he starts running back and forth from me to his water bowl. I walk over to investigate and there is a snake curled up in the bottom of his bowl! This startled me for sure but even worse after I looked at it for a minute I realize it is a cotton mouth! (water moccasin) For those of you that are unfamiliar there are three types of snakes in this part of the world that are poisonous. 1 Rattlesnakes 2 Copperheads 3 Cotton mouths. Of the three I consider the cotton mouth to be the most dangerous. They are very ill tempered and can be aggressive I have seen them actually chase fishermen on a riverbank before. They usually stay close to water but since its so dry here this year I imagine he left the little creek that runs behind my house looking for water. So here he is in my yard. yippeee! I take my dog and tie him outta the way and grab a shovel. After turning the bowl over he (she?) coils up and acts like he is ready to strike at me. Thats when I use the shovel to turn him into several small pieces. Now he is a good snake! Now back to my ball game. 	Glad to hear the pooch wasn't hurt, but if there was one there could be more this year so watch out. It's too bad. You can't even barbecue cotton-mouth.
