Today was a beautiful day! Sun shining and warm. So, I spent it with my sons.
We had to go to the store for groceries and such. Then, I fixed dinner and watched a movie, The New Guy, with them. And, finally, we went fishing this evening.
I always love fishing with them. They have to show me every fish they catch, every time, regardless of size. And, of course, there's a running tally and associated shit talking about who caught the most or biggest. All 3 of us caught a few before it was over.
Well, my older son convinced his brother to bite a night crawler in half. It was hilarious! After biting it, he was like, "Ewww! That tastes nasty!" and was spitting for a few minutes as we laughed at him. We couldn't convince him to eat it, hard as we tried.
There was a lot of wildlife around. We heard grouse drumming, saw a few ducks and lots of turtles. There's also several beaver huts around the lake. I had the luck of spotting one climbing out of the water to eat right across the cove. It was a first for the boys to see one on land.
It was HUGE! At least 30 lbs. And, only about 100' away. It paid no attention as we watched and talked about it quietly. Unknown to it, there was an elderly couple fishing right around the bend.
As we watched, we saw the old man coming around the corner slowly, being careful of his steps. He had no idea the beaver was there either. The brush was kind of thick and the man got to within 10' or so of it before the beaver heard him and jumped into the water with a big splash.
The poor guy was so startled that he dropped his fish stringer and almost fell in the water himself. The boys and I was laughing our asses off. We couldn't tell who was more or beaver.
We were still laughing by the time he made it around to us. He said that he had no idea what splashed but, it scared the hell outta him. He never even saw it! It was priceless! We laughed all of the way home. And, again as they told their mom about it.
It was a fantastic day! I had never seen anybody get that close to a wild animal so large without seeing it. It was like watching a movie. Just thought I'd share with my friends.

The times you spend with your kids are where the memories are made.
When I was growing up, I had my grandparents to take us kids camping, fishing. It was so much fun. I will never forget it. I just wish they were still around.
